Darryl (and Nicole), I used to shop at the Niddy Noddy, my favorite place to find macramé materials and yarns. I LOVED that shop, and I'm so grateful to my folks for supporting my (then) passion and taking me there. My father always liked different textiles and taught me to appreciate texture too. What a plethora of choice, yYou couldn't go wrong there! So nice to be able to share those fond memories.

I think you are talking about the Weaver's Friend. It is a pretty solid loom, the biggest thing would be to make sure all the working parts are there. Make sure the shafts switch places when the beater is moved forward, and that there are no broken or missing pieces/parts on the back beam and automatic thingy. Good luck with it, great loom for rugs. Very noisy! :-)

I am buying one of the looms you describe, site unseen, other than pics next weekend, which I know isn't the most brialliant move I've ever made, but is there anything I should look for/check that you can think of before I hand over my money? thanks, appreciate any help you can give. I'm talking about the automatic thingy. wendy

Wow, what a small world Nicole! Thanks for commenting, and I checked out your blog, what fun and how very colorful! I taught again at the Fling this year, there are a couple postings on that, just do a blog search and you'll see them. Glad to know the name of the shop in Croton, and it is coming back to me, and now I remember the name was the Niddy Noddy! :-)
