Your blogs are the highlight of my e-mail... I learn everyday and at my age that's important. Speaking of age...Happy Birthday. Every year is a gift from now on. Judy

Like Marlene I have learnt so much from your blog about sewing handwoven fabric. And you have inspired me to warp up for yardage, the first in a very long time. What is a Hong Kong seam finish please? Maybe a photo if possible. Thanks and Many Happy Returns.

I reread my blog and Marlene's comment. I'm thinking I didn't completely answer the question. I chose a Hong Kong seam finish for the center back seam, because it is very pretty and polished in a pressed open seam for an unlined jacket. It is my "drug of choice" when choosing seam finishes. I did one of the side back panels, and even finished off the edge of the seams that were pressed to one side like a Hong Kong, and it looks beautiful. More photos tomorrow!

The seams that get topstitched get pressed to the side, and then I'll couch instead of topstitching, it will show up better. The center back seam is pressed open on the pattern, for symmetry I imagine. Also, I'm thinking there would be a lump right on the spine and that might not be so comfortable leaning back in a chair. The side back seams aren't right on the spine, and the pattern calls for them to be pressed to one side and topstitched. The difficulty here is topstitching or couching will stiffen the seam and make it less flexible, and this is a drapey kind of fabric, I'm hoping the fabric doesn't give too much and fight the seam finish. Time will tell, that's how I learn what to teach, by trying it myself. It will either work, or I'll go back and try plan B.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone! It was a lovely day, and I got the loom fixed, and we are good to finish!
