Thank you Linda, I appreciate the kind words. I'm crossing my fingers that our paths will cross and you'll get to one of my classes, and , a professional photographer doesn't know how to shoot everything AND they don't necessarily know how to teach the subject. That would take a teacher...

Daryl,
I'm one of those folks that came to weaving after that Convergence in Cincinnati (much to my dismay...I worked just across town at the time and had a couple friends tell me how much I would have enjoyed it, if I could have taken the time off to go!).
Whatever some may say...I still look forward to being able to taking ANY of your workshops. The recommendations that I've heard from friends who have taken your classes, and the projects that have come out of them, leave me wanting to have the experience for myself.
I keep watching your schedule :)
p.s. "professional" photographers don't know how to shoot everything.

Hi Katie, great questions. I won't line the jacket, and I won't back it, and I am expecting it to grow the way a handwoven usually does when not supported. That's why the fit is pretty close on the pattern, I expect it to get a bit slouchier, which is the style. Note: I didn't back the Leaves and Berries Coat either, but the fabric was pretty fulled with the wool weft, so it shouldn't grow at all. There are two products on my website store, that I use for backing, one is a fusible knit tricot with a crosswise stretch, and the other is a polyester inserted texturized weft, which also has a crosswise stretch. The second one gives the fabric more beef or loft then the tricot, and with the crosswise stretch, they seem to allow the handwoven to do what it wants without allowing it to distort too much. For the Arctic Sky Jacket, which I made just before the Splash Dress, I actually used a poly rayon weft interfacing called Whisper Weft, that has NO crosswise stretch, and the jacket is holding its shape extraordinarily well, but I wanted that, because it was very tailored. My dilemma with the new jacket is whether to interface the collar pieces and with what. I don't want them too stiff, and as it is, there are two layers of fabric. I'm even thinking of hand basting the two layers together invisibly.

I've made a few articles of clothing from my handwoven. A few posts back you talk about the summer splash dress growing because you didn't back it. If you don't line this jacket, will it be backed? And can you please comment on what you use for backing? I have skirt fabric for my teacher daughter coming off the loom soon. I've never backed my pieces, but haven't made a skirt that will definitely bulge and grow in the "sit" area if it's not dealt with. It will be lined, too. Thanks, Daryl. I love reading your blog. I learn so much!
